Healthy Fats

Skin on our face and body tends to become drier during the colder months.  Combat this from the inside out by consuming a healthy diet full of “good fats”, aka Omega-3 Fatty Acids.  WebMD.com declares that healthy fats are, “critical in keeping skin hydrated, plumper, and younger looking.”  The best fats can be found in flax seeds, chia seeds, almonds, walnuts, and avocado.  As an added bonus, Omega-3 Fatty Acids are also important for heart health!

Drink Water

By now, we all know that drinking plenty of water is essential to our overall health.  Our bodies are made up of 60% water – which needs constant replenishment.  Dehydration can make skin appear wrinkled and dry.   Prevent dehydration and combat dry, winter skin by drinking plenty of water each day.  Bored of water?  Add some pizzazz with cucumber or lemon.  Herbal teas are an especially great way to increase your water consumption this time of year!

Eat Seasonal Fruits

Stay healthy throughout the cold and flu season.  Fruits high in vitamin C like oranges, grapefruits, clementines, kiwis, and lemons are abundant in the winter months.  Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant known to boost the immune system, brighten the skin, and even reduce the appearance of wrinkles.  Vitamin C plays a crucial role in collagen synthesis – helping to maintain the plumpness and bounce in our skin.  So eat up!  They’re delicious!

Intensive Coconut Oil Hair Mask

Coconut oil has been known to moisturize hair strands, nourish hair with vitamins e and k, prevent breakage, and even stimulate growth!  To enjoy these benefits, apply 2 – 4 tablespoons of melted coconut oil to dry hair and scalp.  Brush hair with a wide tooth comb to evenly distribute.  Tie hair into a bun, then cover with a shower cap or plastic bag.  Leave on for a few hours – or even overnight- then shampoo, condition, and style as usual!  (Tip: We recommend raw, organic coconut oil for the best results)

Dry Body Brushing

Have you tried the latest beauty trend?  Recently coming back into fashion, the age-old practice of dry body brushing has a reputation to diminish cellulite, aide in the body’s detoxification, and refresh the skin by sloughing off dead cells and encouraging new cell turnover.  Dry, dull skin is the most common complaint during winter.  Freshen up with a daily dose of brushing!  All you need is a bristled body brush and 5 minutes.  Watch a how-to here.
