FAQ

How long do extensions last?

When applied properly, extensions can last up to about 6 weeks. The growth and shedding cycle of your natural lashes will cause the extensions to fall out gradually. Since your natural lashes are constantly shedding (each lash on its own individual cycle) you will constantly be shedding extensions. On average a person will lose about 5-10 lashes per week. They can last indefinitely with regular touch ups which are recommended every 2-3 weeks to maintain fullness.

Will extensions damage my natural lashes?

No, not if they are applied properly and taken care of properly. When applied properly all lashes are separated and applied one to one (one extension to one natural lash). This requires extensive training, attention to detail and dedication. Your natural lashes follow a natural growth cycle and it is imperative that every individual lash is able to grow, live and shed on its own. If extensions are not properly applied they can clump, tug and pull at your natural lashes causing breakage, damage and discomfort.

How long does the application process take?

Full sets: 1-2 hours. Touch up: 30 minutes to 1 hour.

How do you apply the extensions?

The appropriate length, curl and thickness is chosen based on the condition of your natural lashes and your desired look. We apply the extensions one by one, isolating each individual natural lash and attaching one extension near the base of your natural lash. This process is repeated until your desired fullness is reached. There is no contact with your skin.

How often will I need touch ups?

With proper care we recommend every 2-3 weeks.

Does the application process hurt?

No, in fact it is quite the opposite. It is a very relaxing, pain-free process and can be a great time for you to de-stress, regenerate or even take a nap!

Can I wear mascara?

Yes but only if it’s oil free or formulated for eyelash extensions. Mascara made for natural lashes has oil that will break down the bond of the adhesive. Waterproof mascara is extremely difficult to remove and will be harmful to both the extensions and the natural lash. If the mascara is meant for eyelash extensions it’s ok to wear sparingly, but apply it mainly at the tips. The removal and application process of any mascara will cause extra wear on the extensions.

Can I wear eyeliner?

Yes. Gel, powder or liquid is best. Pencil eyeliner has oils that can seep into the lash line and can cause the extensions to come off prematurely. Pencil is ok to use if it is formulated for eyelash extensions – we sell these at Blink. Be gentle when removing eyeliner of any kind and do not use an oil based makeup remover.

What are the differences between Synthetic, Faux Mink and Authentic Mink lashes?

Synthetic – Made out of polyester. Lowest quality, heavier in weight, stiffer and don’t hold up as long on the natural lashes due to the weight and lack of flexibility. Lowest cost.

Faux mink – Made out of nylon or silk. Most popular, lighter in weight, more flexible and hold up longer on the natural lashes. Generally you can wait a little longer between touch ups because they hold up better. Feel lighter and more natural than synthetic. This is the type of lash used at Blink Lash Boutique.

Authentic mink – Almost weightless. Finer in thickness than any other lash, typically it’s best to apply 2 authentic mink extensions per natural lash to achieve fullness. The process takes longer and is more tedious, the result looks very light weight, natural and feathery even when full.

What if I get an allergic reaction to the adhesive?

It is rare, but reactions can occur. Let us know as soon as possible. Benadryl or hydrocortisone cream can help. There are steps we can take to reduce irritation including a sensitive adhesive option. If the reaction persists, eyelash extensions may not be recommended for that person.

Will I ever need a break from wearing the extensions?

This will vary per person, the general answer is no. However people with very fine natural lashes may need a break because their lashes are weaker than someone with thicker or coarser lashes. This is why the length and thickness we choose for application is important so the extension is not too heavy for the natural lash and cause damage.

Can (Should) I lash tint or perm before eyelash extensions?

It is not necessary since the extensions and adhesive are black and the extensions are already curled. If tinting or perming is done it must be done 24 hours before the full set application and cannot be done again while the extensions are on.

Can I shower, swim, exercise, tan or sauna?

Yes, your lashes are waterproof and sweat-proof 6 hours after your application. Prolonged and excessive exposure to heat and water may lessen the life of your lashes, but will not make them fall off. If you have an active lifestyle you may require touch ups more often than others.

I have a gap where my eyelashes don’t grow, can you fill that?

We can use a bridging technique to help disguise the gap but can’t completely fill it in.

Why did I experience more loss this time around?

You may have gone through a shedding cycle, exposed the lashes to oil, or didn’t need as many replaced last time meaning you left with more old extensions that have since shed. More will need to be replaced this time. Proper home care is imperative for maintaining healthy extensions.

If I no longer want my extensions, what should I do?

Either let them shed out naturally or have a removal done.
